February is American Heart Month and we wanted to write this blog to help bring awareness to heart disease and how much it affects people in the world.

February is American Heart Month and is labeled that to help raise awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent it. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the US. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart related diseases. That is a very astonishing number. However the good news is that heart diseases can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and are aware of their health conditions.

The goal of American Heart Month is to encourage and motivate everyone to adopt heart healthy behaviors, which truly is not a hard task to accomplish.

Here are some tips for living a heart healthy life!

  • Eat a healthier diet. Use spices and herbs to season foods instead of salt.
  • Make sure you maintain a good BMI ratio.
  • Drink less alcohol.
  • Don’t use tobacco.
  • Implement some form of physical activity into your everyday life.

The last point regarding exercise is the most important one, especially to us. Not only does exercise strengthen your heart, keep your arteries clear, regulates blood pressure, and strengthens the lungs, it also helps to prevent cancer. At Bongiovanni Insurance and Financial we are becoming healthier thanks to our new company wide health and wellness program! Brought to us by Nikki Bongiovanni, our health and wellness plan that we have recently implemented into lives includes many different healthy behaviors like getting enough sleep at night, drinking enough water during the day, eating healthy at least 4 times a week, and working out at least 3 times a week. All very simple things we can do to get in the habit of creating a healthier lifestyle for ourselves.

We need to take our health more seriously because without a healthy body, our time left on this beautiful planet may be shorted even more than it already is!
