Spring may not feel like it is here, but it’s coming and there’s no better time than the present to get ahead of that spring cleaning. We’ve done the research for you and found some quirky but effective tips for cleaning your house and also making sure it lasts through the year!

 

Follow these few tricks and your house will surely be squeaky clean just in time for the warmer weather!

 

  • Remove water stains with lemon for a natural faucet fix

  • Clean your microwave by heating lemon juice and rinds in water

  • Use white vinegar to beat shower head buildup

  • Clean stainless steel sinks with baking soda

  • Use newspaper to clean dirty windows and mirrors

  • Organize your fridge and cabinets with rotating turntables

  • Places a wet dryer sheet on your ceramic stovetop to remove a burnt-on residue

  • Clean your grill with an onion

  • Use coffee filters to remove fingerprints, smudges, and dust from your computer and TV screens

  • Unpack and stack your spring/summer clothes vertically

  • Use cream of tartar to clean toasters and tea kettles

  • Use a window squeegee to scrape pet hair from your carpet or rug

  • Use cotton swabs to clean your keyboard keys

  • Lastly, know your couch or rug before cleaning it. Don’t ruin your upholstered furniture by using the wrong cleaner. Not all manufacturer labels state what type of solvent to use. Familiarize yourself with the cleaning codes below.

    • W: Use water-based cleaning solutions.

    • S: Use dry-cleaning solvents. Do not saturate. Do not use water.

    • S-W: Use water-based cleaners or dry-cleaning solvents.

    • X: Use a vacuum or brush only.

 

Don’t forget to clean out closets and storage units to get rid of things like toys, books, games, clothes, blankets, etc. that you don’t use anymore. You can donate them to places like Goodwill or your local church so those who are in need will be able to receive those items. It doubles as a cleaning technique and an act of kindness so win/win!
