St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend and you all know what that means… Drinking and eating, a lot. However, St. Patrick’s Day is a day originally created to celebrate the death of St. Patrick himself. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast–on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Today, the Irish and the non-Irish still come together to celebrate St. Patrick but in a much different way! For St. Patrick’s Day there are more than 100 parades held across the United States filled with people wearing green and sporting shamrock accessories. They drink beer, excessively, and regret it all in the morning, but hey, it’s for St. Patrick!

Here are some events happening this weekend in Connecticut that you can go to and celebrate St. Patty’s Day!
